Classes are set up MUCH differently here than in the States.I am currently signed up for:
Insect Overwintering Mechanisms / Advanced Light Microscopy / Plant Identification / Evolution of the Evolutionary Theory
I might still take:
Behavioral Ecology and/or Conservation Biology
and I am enrolled in an online class back home at TTU:
Dinosaurs
What's so different? Well, for starters their class don't run for an entire semester like ours do. I think of it more on the workshop type class system. They might have a class that is only one week long.. but you go every day for 8 hours. A class might run for 2 weeks, 4, 6... it just depends.I am very excited about all my classes, actually.
My online class at TTU IS on the semester system and I will be working on those assignments throughout the regular TTU semester time scale.
My first class HERE isn't until February! (Feb 20-25) Insect Overwintering Mechanisms is a one week course... at the Konnevesi Research Station!!! I will be out in woods for a whole week searching for frozen bugs! LOL How great is that!? Let's just hope I don't freeze as well, haha.
Advanced Light Microscopy is actually a graduate level course, I am hoping they will still let me participate. i have to take an entrance exam to even be permitted in the class at all. It is only for one week in March and two in April.
Plant Identification starts the same week as my insect class, but I will be doing a private study version of the class in English instead. I am very excited and nervous about this one... It's gong to be hard.. but in a good way.
Evolution of the Evolutionary Theory is a discussion class. We only have 6 meetings. We will be reading papers and discussing how the Theory of Evolution has changed over the years through new discoveries but also how reactions and views about it have changed as well.
If I take Behavioral Ecology and/or Conservation Biology they will be in the form of a "book exam". Which can also be called Private Study. In these cases you read the book, do your own studying and then take an exam over all the material. I must say... I am a bit intimidated by this... but I am going to try it...
