Maybe its because I'm freezing in Finland, but I finally started working on the Amazon video. I dumped all the raw footage into and editing program and JUST MY stuff is 1.5 hours!! That's before anyone else's videos or photos. I have alot of trimming to do. I also have to figure out this new editing software. It seems easy enough though.
A sneak peak - These are stills from the first frame of all the video I shot on the trip - Movie / Documentary coming soon Thank you Dr. Combs for making this happen! Thank you to Orlando and Nancy Hoya for being such amazing hosts! Thank you to all the rest of the Kingfisher Lodge staff as well!! Several of these photos have title and description - click on the photo to pause the slide show and read about it Having trouble viewing the photo slide show?

Dan the Sloth :) We rescued him from the river bank (he would have died in the sun or been eaten by the villagers) He now lives at the Kingfisher Lodge Shooting a blowgun with the Yagua Tribe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yagua 1 of 3 Piranha that I caught when we went fishing :) We took them back to camp and had them for dinner! I'm back but its going to be a minute before i can really go crazy on this blog...i need to get everything organized... soooooon you will see photos / videos / journal entries :)
I am keeping this blog log for my family and friends. I've had some questions about what time, where, what you doing crazy girl?
So... before I go to bed in little 'ol Cookeville for the last time this coming week... I thought I'd post. We're leaving Cookeville around 1:30p Wednesday Aug 4th - Flying out of Nashville - to Miami - to Lima, Peru - to Iquitos, Peru. If all goes according to plan we should arrive in Iquitos around 11am Thurs Aug 5th. Then we will take a ride through the city to our boat - after boarding the boat we will visit Belen (the market/port area of Iquitos) During the high water season this area is a floating village since the houses are built on rafts. We are arriving in the dry season and will see the houses on dry land. Next we will travel down one of the Amazon tributaries, the Momon River, to visit a Bora Indian tribe and village. After a traditional Bora presentation we will be able to barter or buy hand crafted items. We will then travel another 50 miles down the Amazon River to our destination : The Amazon Kingfisher Lodge. The owners of the lodge have alot of awesome things planned for us during our week there - - 2 jungle walks - An all day boat trip on the Napo River to Urco Mirano Lake and village - A boat trip to look for dolphins - both gray bottlenose and pink 'boto' dolphins - A visit to a village elementary school - A visit to a local sugar cane mill - A boat trip to visit a village on a black water stream - Canoeing in dug-out canoes - Swiming in the Amazon River - Learning how to build bird and animal traps - Fishing for piranha and other Amazon fresh water fish - Soccer and Volleyball games with villagers - Early morning hikes for bird watching (optional for sleepyheads) - Nocturnal excursions (optional for those afraid of the dark) i have NO IDEA how we will fit all this in... but I'm am willing to try!! :) We will start our long journey again on the morning of Wed Aug 11th. We'll have a 10-12 hour lay over in Lima. I think we're planning to go see the city a bit during that time. We should be back in TN sometime Thurs morning. There is no electricity where we are going, no phones, no stores, no medical facilities (we are traveling with Nurse Practitioner though, no worries!) I am so very excited about be so far removed from everything I know.... I can't wait to share stories, videos, and photos with you all!! Look for another post around Aug 12 or 13! Til then..... Well well.... in about 24 hours I will be on my way to the Peruvian Amazon for a week long adventure in the jungle.
Packing and preparing has be the hardest part of it all... I am excited about the adventure of the jungle and going without electricity all week :) I keep thinking I am going to forget something... namely.. money... passport.. etc. Or I will miss a flight - eeep Once I get back around Aug 13th, I will be uploading videos, photos, and journal entries to this site for all my friends and family Stay tuned! :) |
