I miss those moments
washing dishes
and you wrap me up in you
walking by and you just need to say it
or brush my hand
when we sit together
you'd have to move an arm, a finger, the side of your foot - til it just so slightly touches mine
and so no one else in the room knows
how close you need to be
There are things I can no longer say
there is a distance that must be maintained
because some how
we let the pain work its way in between us
and now
this chasm has eroded
leaving us empty and staring down
how does the earth learn to love her scars
as people come to admire
come placing feet where your hand once brushed me
and taking family portraits where my tears have been
